Deck Size
The deck is 20 inches across, with a 19 inch cutting blade path, the deck is made from polymer plastic with a steel cutting blade. Most of the deck is one piece, but there is a hole for the side discharge chute. The side of the deck uses Black and Decker’s EdgeMax™ and is a comb that brings in the grass from behind the front wheel and into the blade to help with mowing along a wall or a fence.
Power
A 13-amp motor is more than enough for a 20 inch blade, and there are little signs of slowing when it gets to a tough patch of grass. And a good quality double insulated cable runs from the control box to the motor to supply a better level of protection and durability.
Blade
The blade is metal, and Black and Decker recommend sharpening it twice during the growing season. These blades are hard wearing and will last some time before it is time to get a new one. The manufacturer does state that sand and tough objects will dent and bend the blade. Any damage is likely to make the blade dangerous — signs that it needs replacing are strong vibrations.
Height Adjustment
There is a single height lever, set high on the top of the machine, so you do not have to bend over far to adjust it. The lever has 7 settings, which changes the height of the deck in an even way across all four wheels. Heights range from 1 1/2 inches to 4 inches at the highest.
Roller (Stripes)
This machine does not have a roller or a striper, but there is a backplate that gives some direction and pressure to the grass. This plate will have a negligible effect on fine long grass but show little on short grass.
Grass Box
The mower comes with a 13 gallon grass collection bag, with a mesh outer, and a steel skeleton. The skeleton helps the bag to keep its shape while keeping the weight down. A mesh bag is also practical because it is easier to see when it needs emptying and folds flatter for easier storage.

To start the machine, there is a safety button that the operator must press before they can engage the throttle. The height lever is on the top of the machine, which should prevent the operator from tripping over the mower. Performance
Performance is very good and is expected from a well-respected brand such as BLACK+DECKER. The EdgeMax™ combs do help to pull grass in towards the blade, and the blade does a respectable job of cutting the grass. Most important of all, the 13-amp motor is well-suited to the task of spinning the steel blade and doing a great job.
That’s not to say this is the best value mower on the market, there are cheaper options. However, you do get a powerful corded mower packed with mowing features not found on cheaper alternatives.
