Greenworks 18-Inch 25012 Review

Summary

The Greenworks 18 inch 25012 corded lawn mower is suitable for small to medium-sized lawns. The mower has a 12-amp electric motor and has the ability to mulch and side discharge the cuttings. There are 7 cutting heights on this Greenworks 18 inch from 1 3/4 inch to 3 3/4 inch and it includes safety features to prevent accidental starting. This is a light-weight model at just 46 lbs that will fold down into a small and compact package for easy storage.

This is a machine suitable for small to medium-sized lawns and fills in the gap of the other models currently on the market designed by Greenworks. An 18 inch deck and 12-amp motor work well together to produce a mower that will get through tough grass, challenging areas and still has a decent deck size.

Key Features

  • Rating: 9.5/10
  • Lawn Size: Small – Medium
  • Power: 12-Amp Motor
  • Deck Size: 18 Inch
  • Number of Cutting Heights: 7 (1 3/4 in to 3 3/4 in)
  • Weight: 46 Pounds

Deck Size

An 18 inch deck is not the biggest that you will find among the lines of corded lawnmowers, but it is more than enough for a small to medium sized yard. Steel does add some weight to the mower. But because it is a small mower, it is still lightweight enough for a person to lift it to a shelf or hang it up.

Power

The Greenworks 18 inch 25012 uses a 12-amp electric motor to give the type of power you would expect from a 6-horsepower gas engine. And because Greenworks have used a smaller blade, the motor can cope better with long thick wet grass.

Blade

The 18 inch steel blade is easy to install and replace, with two bolt holes. Because of the mulching capability, the blades are more costly.

Height Adjustment

There is a single lever for height control at the right-rear of the Greenworks’ 18 inch 25012. This lever controls the height of both front and rear wheels at the same time with a steel connecting rod. There are 7 heights to choose from, which ranges from 1 3/4 inch and up to 3 3/4 inches.

Roller (Stripes)

This model does not have a roller or striper, though it may be possible to find an aftermarket part that will do the job. This is not self-propelling, so any more weight added will make the mower that much more difficult to push.

Grass Box

This is a 2-1 unit that does not include a grass box. There are two ways to dispose of the grass, either through a side vent or by using the mower’s mulcher.

Mulching

The Greenworks’ 18 inch 25012 is a mulching mower and does not have a grass box. This mower is for people that do not want to be running back and forth to empty a grass bag all the time. The mulching blade works well, and it cuts the clippings into fine pieces that will help to fertilize the lawn.

Safety Features

Power cables going to the motor and from the control box are double insulated. Pressing the start button on the power junction box activates the throttle lever.

There is also a cable hook under the handlebar to prevent the cable from tugging the control box.

Design and Build Quality

All four wheels are 7 inches in diameter, the rims are plastic, and the tires are also solid. The steel deck is well-painted, and the arms double-fold to reduce its size to that of a small suitcase. And because there is no grass bag, there is one less thing to store.

Performance

A larger motor and smaller blade help to improve the cutting power of this compact machine. The blade will even chop mild-wet grass and thick weeds into fine pieces. The combination of blade and motor size has resulted in this very forgiving unit that will last and perform well for years to come.

Should You Buy This Model?

Greenworks 18-Inch 25012 Review

There is a good balance between the motor size and blade size, which makes a much more efficient and durable mower. The deck is strong, and the lack of a grass clippings bag is an acceptable plus. And the reduction in functions means that there is less to go wrong with it.

If you do not care about collecting all the grass clippings and having a perfect lawn, then yes. The mulching cuts the grass up so fine that there is not much left to collect, and it will also save on the fertilizer that you need to buy.

The Greenworks 18-Inch 12 Amp Corded Electric Lawn Mower 25012 is ideal for those that:

People that like the option to mulch the grass cuttings.
