Gardena FAQ

Q. How do I know if the Robotic Lawnmower is suitable for my garden?

Simply check if your garden is suitable using the product specifications.

For example, in my review of the Gardena R70Li mower, you find that it has a max working area requirement of 700m², it can handle slopes up to 25% and can only fit through passages with at least 60cm of space. So your garden would need to fit these specifications for the R70Li to maintain it properly.

Q. Can I use a GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower for separate working areas?

If the working area consists of two separate lawn areas where the mower can’t move by itself, its best to lay the wire to the other areas. In this case, the mower is supported manually between main and secondary areas.

Use the MAN mode and the mower mows until the battery is empty. Using this method, you will need to take it to the charging station by yourself.

Q. Must the charging station be placed on the lawn or could it be placed on a vegetable patch?

The area in front of the charging station is a high-traffic location. The mower should be able to start in any direction and return to the charging station from any direction.

Q. How small can the narrow passages for the GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower in my garden be?

It’s better to avoid long narrow passages and Areas narrower than 1.5 m otherwise the Robotic Lawnmower might mow the passage for too long or be unable to remove itself from it.

Q. How narrow could the passages (approx. 1 m in length) for the GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower in my garden be?

That depends on the Robotic Lawnmower. For R38Li, R40Li, R45Li and R50Li models the minimum width is 90 cm between the boundary wires. For R70Li, (smart) SILENO / SILENO+ models the minimum width is 60 cm between the boundary wires.

Q. How much grass does the GARDENA Robotic Lawnmower leave standing at the edge?

The width of the uncut grass strip depends on how close the boundary wire can be laid to the edge of the lawn.

  • e.g. at 5 cm (R38Li, R40 Li, R45Li, R50Li and R70Li) or 10 cm ((smart) SILENO / SILENO+) from the lawn edge, along brick paths that can be passed by the Robotic Lawnmower, there will be no uncut grass strip.
  • e.g. at 20 cm (R38Li, R40 Li, R45Li, R50Li and R70Li) or 25 cm ((smart) SILENO / SILENO+) from the lawn edge, along beds or crushed rock that cannot be driven by the Robotic Lawnmower, there will be a narrow strip of grass.
  • e.g. at 30 cm (R38Li, R40 Li, R45Li, R50Li and R70Li) or 35 cm ((smart) SILENO / SILENO+) from the lawn edge, along a wall or around trees, there will be a slightly wider strip of grass.

To make sure that the grass is completely mowed or that only small strips of uncut grass are left, change the layout of your garden, for example by edging the lawn with curb stones or concrete slabs at lawn height.
